A little background story: I met Fiona several years ago at a National Ballet of Canada function called Mad Hot Gala. It’s an event that I shoot every year for The Ballet and it’s a lot of fun. I can’t remember the details of how we started chatting, but we did, and I was showing her some of the photos on my camera. She told me “You’re going to shoot my wedding….when I get married” and she giggled a bit because she had been dating Taylor for only a short while. Fast forward to several months ago and Fiona calls me up and tells me she is engaged, and according our verbal agreement back when we met, I agreed to shoot her wedding.

As with all engagement shoots, I always prefer to shoot somewhere meaningful to the couple. The photographs are always stronger when there is a connection between the people and the backdrop. I’d rather drive a bit more and shoot somewhere meaningful than to drive 5 minutes and shoot another engagement session at Distillery District. So when Taylor and Fiona asked me to come up to their cottage in Muskoka for their engagement shoot, I committed instantly.

Here are some of my favourites from our shoot.
